Ioannis Tsamardinos, Ph.D., is CEO and co-founder of JADBio, a University start-up, and a Professor at the Computer Science Department of the University of Crete. He obtained his Ph.D. from the Intelligent Systems Program at the University of Pittsburgh in 2001 and worked as Assistant Professor at the Department of Biomedical Informatics at Vanderbilt University. Prof. Tsamardinos’ main research directions include machine learning, bioinformatics, and artificial intelligence. His research is embedded in the JADBio product (standing for Just Add Data Bio), an automated machine learning tool that converts biomedical data to knowledge and predictive models in minutes, requiring minimal human effort and expertise. JADBio is now used by several big life science companies and researchers around the world.
Prof. Tsamardinos has over 130 publications in international journals, conferences, and books. Distinctions with colleagues and students include a Gold Medal in MEDINFO 2004, the Outstanding Paper Award in AIPS 2000, the NASA Group Achievement Award and others. Statistics on recognition of work include more than 8500 citations (1000+ a year), and h-index of 38 (as estimated by Google Scholar). Ioannis Tsamardinos has been awarded the European and Greek national grants of excellence, the ERC Consolidator and the ARISTEIA II grants respectively.
