Olaf Klungel was trained as a pharmacist and epidemiologist. Currently he is Professor of Pharmacoepidemiologic Methods and Head of the Division of Pharmacoepidemiology & Clinical Pharmacology (PECP) at the Utrecht Institute for Pharmaceutical Sciences (UIPS), Utrecht University in Utrecht, the Netherlands. His multidisciplinary team performs research on several epidemiological, therapeutic, and policy aspects of drug use with the goal to contribute to a better benefit-risk ratio of therapeutics for individual patients and for public health in general. Prof. Klungel is principal investigator of the EU Pharmacoepidemiology & Pharmacovigilance Research Network which conducts studies on safety and effectiveness of medicines for EMA. He is president of ISPE and Regional Editor of Pharmacoepidemiology & Drug Safety Europe. Prof. Klungel teaches pharmacoepidemiology and pharmacotherapy to medical and pharmacy students. He is (co-)author of over 300 papers in peer reviewed journals, book chapters and research reports. His H-index is 47.
